As we head into fall and I look at my potted plants drowning in this un-ending rain and I only feel apathy and despair, I am wanting to remind myself of how far our backyard has come.  It is so easy for me to focus on the unfinished projects and unrealized dreams that our backyard is made up of.  But seeing these pictures makes me feel better, for obvious reasons.

When we bought the bungalow we were coming out from under a 2 acre property, so 1/16th sounded not just doable but kind of necessary for our mental health.  We loved the idea of mowing our lawn with an old-fashioned muscle-powered push mower rather than a driving one. We had no plans to grow food or really do anything outside other than drinks cocktails (and even that we ended up doing on the front porch).  So while our plans for our postage stamp lot were super minimal, we knew we had a bit of work to do in order to enjoy it.

First, we killed trees, as I am wont to do. Then we removed railings and unneccesary dog houses and waited for the teenager to grow up; prayed for grass, built some beds, and had friends over. Cozy-Spacious is the official technical term I just made up for it.
