A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, IN MY HEAD

Me: "Hi New York! I'm thinking about living in you. I'd like to go to school and start a career as an interior designer, and you seem like a good place to do those things."

New York: "REALLY? BECAUSE I WILL CHEW YOU UP AND SPIT YOU OUT. I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOU OR WHAT YOU WANT. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH."

Me: "Oh."

AND

Me: "Hi San Francisco! I'm thinking about living in you. I'd like to go to school and start a career as an interior designer, and you seem like a good place to do those things."

San Francisco: "Oh! Cool! That's so interesting! How can I help you do that?"

2 MONTHS AGO, IN SAN FRANCISCO

New Friend: "So how's school going?"

Me: "It's fine, but I really miss being in people's rooms, telling them how to make it all better."

New Friend: "Ohohoh, you should do our rooms! Yes, come over and tell us how to make it all better."

Me: "Really? 'Cause I just got to CA and I don't have a license or relationships with vendors. I don't know where anything is. Like, I'm just starting."

New Friend: "I'm sure. I'm thrilled!"

YESTERDAY, IN MY HEAD, AFTER A GREAT MORNING WITH NEW FRIENDS/CLIENTS

Me: "I might have been wrong about New York, but I know I was not wrong about San Francisco."

San Francisco: "Pretty much."
